Obtaining a psychology degree no longer means that career choices are limited to providing therapy services, whether private or public. A psychology degree can also open doors to employment in the fields of social services, health care, and employer/employee assistance, just to name a few.
Depending on the area where someone wishes to practice, it may be necessary to get a specific psychology degree. Some fields require a four-year degree plus a Master’s Degree. Still others require a four-year degree as well as a Master’s, and then completion of a program to earn a Doctorate psychology degree.
Associate’s psychology degrees and Certification program credentials, however, do still allow graduates to work in other fields where psychology is a necessary or integral part of the job. For this reason, students considering a career in the psychology should not be discouraged, but rather look into the requirements needed for the various psychology degrees and choose accordingly.
Students may wish to remember that oftentimes the skills and training acquired through certification programs provide enough knowledge that successful completion of the courses counts as college credit. When this is the case, it is sometimes easy to turn certification programs into Associate psychology degrees.
From there, the credits that were gained through successful completion of courses necessary for earning Associate psychology degrees can be applied toward Bachelor degrees. And, since a Bachelor degree is necessary before beginning to pursue post-graduate studies, it is only a matter of time before one may be able to obtain a Master’s and then a Doctorate degree.
The only thing keeping anyone from obtaining any one of the psychology degrees available is a person’s determination to do so. Colleges and universities who offer these degrees can help students find that determination and accomplish their goals.
