Degrees, Programs, Teachers

Had the teacher who immediately comes to mind when thinking back over one’s school days not earned an education degree, it is possible that the two lives would have never crossed. That person may not have necessarily been one’s favorite teacher, but something he or she did or said made a difference in that person’s life.

Studying for and earning an education degree, however, does not necessarily mean that teaching is the only career opportunity available. If that is one’s goal, however, an education degree will certainly make it attainable.

The courses required for earning an education degree include classes in administration, communication, and other areas that may not come immediately to mind when thinking of education careers. However, because these are part of a student’s course curriculum, they serve to prepare a graduate for employment anywhere within the education field. Most educational institutes require a four-year education degree and certification before a graduate is eligible for employment.

This video on Education Degrees provides even more comprehensive information on education degrees. Some schools do allow those who hold 2-year degrees to serve as teacher’s aides or paraprofessionals. Teaching in a university or college may require a Master’s or even a Doctorate degree.

The teaching field today is such that some degrees that are not even specific to education (such as a degree in Business Administration) are accepted by schools and some colleges. If an organization does require an education degree, some of the credits for courses taken while acquiring other degrees may transfer.

If it is possible to transfer credits to a college or university that offers an education degree, someone who is interested in pursuing another career may be able to earn his or her degree in a very short period of time. From there, it is only a matter of finding a job in the education field.
