Earn Your Degree in Education Online!

With education remaining one of the top three degrees, many individuals continue to opt to study for bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees according to the statistics provided by the National Center for Education Services. If you, too, are interested in considering the option of obtaining your degree in education online, you may want to ponder some of the more popular major choices:

  • Adult and higher education – most often available at the master’s and doctoral levels, a degree in higher education equips students to teach adult students. You would choose this major if your interest lies in teaching at a college or university.
  • Curriculum and instruction – this degree allows students to study which teaching methods and materials are most successful when instructing others. Courses focus on what is currently being taught in schools, how teachers deliver the information, and the importance of curriculum being aligned with the school districts in which they are located.
  • Early childhood education – a very popular major for students who enjoy very young children and want to teach pre-school through third grade, this curriculum will take you through child growth and development, curriculum planning, and effective educational activities for young children.

Teaching in the Real World

Your courses will help you prepare for teaching in an actual classroom, but the student teaching practicum will give you the direct experience of working in a school under the mentorship of a degreed, experienced teacher. You will interact with the children and gain knowledge from those who have been teaching for some time and “know the ropes.” Oftentimes, a student of education will apprentice for eight weeks at one grade level and another grade level the following eight weeks.

Prior to your student teaching experience, you will be prepared for instructing students by studying intervention tactics, cultivating advanced students, ways to help struggling children, how to conduct a parent-teacher conference, and most everything else you need to know before tackling the real-world classroom.

Best Jobs

Currently, some of the education jobs in the US are highest in demand are bilingual/ESL education, science and math, and special education. Often you will find that school districts are offering new-teacher bonuses and higher starting salaries to teachers who have specialized in these areas.

Whatever area of education is right for you, you are sure to find a rewarding and satisfying career.
