Multimedia Degree
One of my best friends use to work in the film industry. She is about ten years older than me and I met her years after she had decided the high pace lifestyle wasn’t for her. However, for about ten years she used her visual communication degree as the assistant to a variety of producers. She helped him (although there were various producers she worked with over that span) do a variety of things from proofreading, scheduling, to actually working in various capacities on films. Her strong suit was communication so she ended up using that more.
However, both a visual communication degree and a multimedia degree can both be beneficial for someone interested in entering into the film industry. After you have your degree, or sometimes even while you are working on it, you should start applying to some of the entry level jobs. A production assistant is a great place to start, or an assistant’s assistant. This will help you learn the ropes of the industry, make important contacts, and earn money in the field you are passionate about. A win-win situation! Are you already in the film industry? Tell us what degree and career steps you took to get into the position that you love.
