Education Degree

There are so many education degree possibilities offered that future teachers often don’t know where to begin. When I was looking into educational programs it was after I had completed a bachelor’s degree in history and the options were completely overwhelming to me so I decided on a nice safe curriculum and instruction degree. It worked out well for me at the time, and I still use the training I received while studying for my degree, however, an instructional technology degree would have actually been more useful in the long term. I say this for two reasons. First, the massive amount of technology that is available in new classrooms is amazing in its breadth and in how quickly that technology, and the way it is used, is changing. If you want to have your mind boggled by everything to do with technology and education visit the Educational Technology blog written by Ray Schroeder. Second, my husband and I started to have children I realized I wanted to work from home. There are many telecommuting and online opportunities available in education and I think an instructional technology degree would have been more applicable and appreciated than my more standard curriculum and instruction degree.
The opportunities to use technology in the classroom are extensive as are the opportunities outside of the classroom. How will you combine education and technology?
