Medical Billing and Coding
A great education choice for people who want the option to work in or out of their homes, is a medical bill and coding degree. This degree program teaches students the fundamentals of medical billing and coding. Each time a doctor performs a procedure or sees a patient, the people who handle the bills must input special codes to submit to the insurance companies. Sometimes doctors with small practices who don’t want to hire someone to do this full time, will hire someone to work part time or to do the coding from home. This is a great option for those looking to supplement their income, or who want to stay home for other reasons.
Additionally, there are medical billing and coding degrees online now. Online programs make it easier than ever to advance your education while working full time. Online degrees are especially nice for those of us who live far away from a university that offers this type of training in a brick and mortar setting.
After working in the insurance business, and later trying to decode insurance for my father, I know for sure how complicated all of this can be. I wonder if I worked on a medical billing and coding degree online if it would help me navigate all of our insurance paper work? I know, silly to go back to school for that but, in all seriousness, with the rapid changes in medical insurance, doctors are going to need specialized skills for billing and coding even more than ever. Have you worked in medical billing and coding? How do you like your job?
