Working at home is a great option for many people. In an economy where more people are losing their jobs and competition for new jobs is tight, it is important to have many employment options. Even people who have been able to keep their jobs, may have found their pay or benefits cut in order for the company to retain as many people as possible. The great thing about a web development degree is that it is just as useful in the freelancing world as it is in landing a more traditional corporate position. Obtaining a degree in web development allows an individual to increase his or her marketable skills.
What is Web Development?
Web development is the behind the scenes part of web design. It is the coding that is necessary to make all the pretty parts of the website work. There are a number of programs and templates out there that can help a person build a website without knowing anything about coding, but to truly customize the design and to create site specific applications, web development training is a must.
What about time?
If you are working full or part time already, whether at home or in an office, you may be wondering how in the world you could possibly find the time to work on a web development degree. Luckily, as with many computer technology degrees, degree programs are readily available as distance learning courses. Find a college that offers all online classes and that is well respected in the web development field. Then register for classes that allow you to work at your own pace or that have live chats during times you are available.
What will I learn?
While programs vary, you will likely learn programming languages, as well as basic management information. Programming languages could include java, php, html, or any number of other languages. Management classes may include information on various operating systems, network administration, design and development skills. When looking through various programs be sure to select one that has courses you are most interested in and that will help you immediately in your job or job search.
